“All junior people work on open source production products. Senior people might do closed source dev but have flexibility to work 2 or 3 days a week while they figure their next move.”

I stole it from Twitter. I know who said it and what is the name of the company, but I will not tell you. It doesn’t matter! 

I think the principle is interesting! Everytime a new person joins, let her or him work on what they want for a few months. Even a product that he or she wasn’t hired for. Even try a a job that she or he didn’t sign for. Even a project not remotely connected with the company. 

The point is to get to know that person. To make he or she feel welcome. The beginning of a beautiful friendship!
